Conversations @ the Center our popular lecture series, Conversations @ the Center, is held four times a year.  Professional artists and arts professionals engage audiences in a discussion of what it is like to work in the visual arts today. Artists and art lovers alike are invited to attend. Each lecture is free and open to the public and is followed by time for questions and discussion.

Exhibit-Connect Workshops for adults and children are offered at Galveston Arts Center during most exhibits. The theme of each of these special art-making workshops ties in to the current exhibit. Workshops are often taught by the exhibiting artists. Recent classes have included collagraph printmaking, cameraless photography, collage and assemblage, and abstract painting.

K-12 School Tours:
Galveston Arts Center invites educators to schedule an up-close experience with contemporary art for their classes. By appointment, students enjoy guided docent tours of all three exhibits, after which a teaching artist leads a classroom art activity that relates to the exhibits. To Request a school tour, please download the Request Form and submit to the Director of Education.

Life Drawing Studio
Held every Monday from 5:30-7:15, this is an opportunity for artists to practice drawing or painting the figure from a live model. Some supplies are available, but participants are encouraged to bring their own mateials and work at their own pace. There is no formal cirriculum or instruction, but friendly advise is always available and special challenges, as well as opportunities to exhibit your work in the studio, will be offered from time to time.

Open Studio Nights Every second Friday from 5:00-7:00 PM, GAC hosts a casual open-studio session in our spacious Studio Classroom. A volunteer artist provides artmaking materials, ideas and tips. Enjoy the company and inspiration of fellow artists as well as music and refreshments as you unwind from your week. Open to adults and teens.

Special Art Workshops
for adults and children are offered throughout the year. Topics of study vary widly and are tailored to specific age-groups. Recent classes have included copper enamel jewelry making, Mardi Gras mask decorating, fundamentals of oil painting, printmaking and more. Check our calendar for upcoming workshops.

Student Art Exhibitions Since 2007, GAC has hosted an annual Student Art opening reception and exhibition in the studio gallery on the night of ArtWalk. Art work by both children and adults participating in all of GAC’s educational programs is on view, allowing participants the experience of having their work exhibited in a professional museum environment. Refreshments are offered and students have the opportunity to introduce their families and friends to their art instructors.

Summer Art Youth Programs
are held all summer long. Beginning in Summer 2016, all programs will take place in our newly refurbished Studio Classroom and will include Friday classes for age groups 5-8 and 9-12, as well as several 5-day Art Camps for ages 9-12. Programs for teens and adults are also offered throughout the summer.

The Apprenticeship Program
provides an opportunity for high school students to work with professional artists to create a large work of public art. Artists with education backgrounds mentor students in planning and specific techniques, and students participate in production and promotion and opening events.
