Waters Running High
Waters Running High is an exhibition of original prints and print-based installation work by Liv Monique Johnson that focus on the landscape as an agent of change. Johnson creates uncanny settings where the unexpected reveals itself in transitional environments and presumptions of paradise. For Johnson, the natural environment can be familiar until brief flashes of activity hint at larger unseen forces. Johnson’s practice incorporates a wide range of printmaking techniques that involve a labor-intensive process of applying and reducing anywhere from three to nine layers of color, printed one on top of the other. These translucent layers create a final image rich in a variety of colors and textures. Her installations use screenprints on cut and formed media to create organic three-dimensional forms.

Lucky Charm Casino
Lucky Charm Casino is an exhibition of print-based work by artist Erin Miller that examines the maximalist and ornamental nature of casino carpeting to investigate experiences of luck, control, risk, and pleasure. The work explores the psychological considerations made in the design of these sites of entertainment as tools for keeping patrons dizzyingly stimulated while simultaneously camouflaging their wear and tear. Miller investigates the more sinister motives behind these opulent design choices, and activates them in the work through pattern repetition, image obfuscation, and discordant color combinations.
