Photography: Intro to Manual Mode

  • Galveston Arts Center 2127 Strand Street Galveston, TX, 77550 United States (map)

For adults and teens at least 14 year old

In this introductory course, fine art photographer Steve Fisher will demystify the technical aspects of digital photography, including camera mechanics, as well as the subjective intent of the photographer as an expressive artist. Students will gain skills in manipulating exposure (f-stop, shutter speed, ISO), depth-of-field, focus, and focal length.

CLASS FORMAT

The first four weeks will include both classroom instruction as well as in-the-field walking outings near the Galveston Arts Center. By the fifth week, students will have selected one of their pictures to be made into a fine art print (included in the course fee) and will learn how to cut a custom mat for their print in preparation for exhibiting. The final class session will feature a discussion with Sebastian Boncy, whose latest photography installation Time After Time is currently on view in the classroom-adjacent 1878 Gallery at GAC.
