Intro to Hand-building Ceramics Workshop
Tuesday October 8 | 5:00− 7:00 PM
For Adults and Teens age 13+
Join ceramicist Derek Sanford in this one-day beginner-friendly workshop exploring the design and production of expressive pottery. You’ll learn a bit about ceramic techniques and styles from history and contemporary art for inspiration and using red earthenware clay to create a fun and functional ceramic project to take home the following week.
Use the coil method to build an even, symmetrical vessel, then embellish it as you see fit with texture, feet/legs, handles, low or high relief sculpture, or carving. No glaze is needed, as the red clay fires to a beautiful terra-cotta color. Unglazed pots keep plants happier as the porous material breathes and allows excess water to evaporate.
