Lauren Kussro
Eden
Eden features recent prints and paper sculptures by Lauren Kussro inspired by the artist’s playful investigation into the natural world. Kussro’s work incorporates various printmaking methods and manipulations of cut paper that echo the complex patterns, textures, and repetition of forms found in plant life. Kussro’s fascination with nature speaks to a desire to return to a fresh, new, and unspoiled place. Like a garden, her works are both methodically planned and grow naturally during their meditative construction. Their vivid and intense colors come together in arrangements of fantastical botanical forms that transport the viewer into an otherworldly garden.
Lauren Kussro attended the Herron School of Art & Design at Indiana University – Purdue University at Indianapolis (IUPUI) for her undergraduate studies, earning a BFA in painting and printmaking in 2003 and graduating with high distinction. In 2006 she completed her MFA degree in printmaking at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Her work has been shown throughout the US, including solo exhibitions at the Nashville International Airport, the Bradley Art Museum in Jonesboro, Arkansas, and Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, as well as group exhibitions at Kai Lin Art in Atlanta, the Dadian Gallery in Washington D.C., and the Manhattan Graphics Center in New York, as well as in exhibitions abroad in India and China. Kussro is currently an Assistant Professor of Art and Design at the University of Houston - Clear Lake, where she teaches printmaking and drawing.
