Zeke Williams
Bird Rights

Bird Rights by Zeke Williams features new large-scale, polychrome wood reliefs inspired by the birds of the Texas Gulf Coast. In planning for the exhibition, Williams visited Smith Oaks Bird Sanctuary at High Island in the spring of 2023, where he encountered its seasonal residents. Using CNC (computer numerical control) routed plywood and pigment, Williams’ works incorporate mechanical markings and vivid hues into layered, three dimensional compositions. The silhouettes of egrets, cormorants, ibises, and roseate spoonbills in these new works are juxtaposed with patterns that simultaneously camouflage and reveal their subjects.

Zeke Williams was born in Concord, MA in 1979, grew up in Fort Worth, TX. He received his BA from the University of Texas at Dallas and MFA from TCU. Williams shows with Erin Cluley Gallery in Dallas, Eugene Binder Gallery in Marfa, and Bill Arning Gallery in Kinderhook, NY. He has contributed writing for Glasstire.com. His work has been exhibited at spaces including The Arlington Museum of Art, North Park Center, and Site 131, and is included in the collections of Meow Wolf, Toyota Headquarters, UT Southwestern Medical Center, and The Edith O’Donnell Institute of Art History. Williams has been a participant in both the Joong Boo Artist Residency and the residency at the Sydney Art Space. His work has been featured in publications including The Dallas Morning News, Glasstire, D Magazine, and Arts and Culture Texas. Williams lives and works in Dallas, TX.
