Art for All is a year-round outreach initiative of the Galveston Arts Center that provides weekly expressive arts programing for patients and clients at healthcare and social services agencies in our community. Begun over 20 years ago, the program continues to empower adults and children of all abilities and backgrounds to explore the creative process for personal enrichment and well-being.

Our Partner Sites

ADA Women’s Recovery Center provides licensed treatment for substance abuse to medically indigent women in coastal Texas. Art for All enhances the residential program with therapeutic recreation in the form of expressive art classes and art field trips.

Moody Neurorehabilitation Institute specializes in rehabilitation for individuals with traumatic brain injuries. Once a week, a GAC Teaching Artist works alongside staff therapists, facilitating activities that complement the goals of group sessions.

The Resource and Crisis Center (RCC) provides shelter and social services for victims of domestic violence. Art for All weekly activities encourage children at the shelter to engage in creative play and healthy self-expression.

The Ronald McDonald House of Galveston is a home-away-from-home for families from outside the US while their children receive care at Shriners Burn Hospital. Each week, a bilingual GAC Teaching Artist provides adaptive art activities that encourage patients and siblings to interact with one another and explore the scope of their abilities. Temporarily suspended due to COVID-19.

The Sunshine Center is a day-habilitation program for adults with developmental disabilities. Weekly Art for All classes foster clients’ sense of pride and belonging, while reinforcing concepts and skills that help them engage with the community.

TideWay is a specialized assisted living facility operated by Moody Neuro for adults with TBI. Three days a week, GAC Teaching Artists work with residents in small groups to improve quality of life and help them live to their fullest potential.

UTMB Acute Care for the Elderly (ACE) provides active care for seniors in a homelike environment within UTMB’s Jenny Sealy Hospital. Lonely or anxious patients are treated to nourishing creative diversion twice a week through Art for All programing. Temporarily suspended due to COVID-19.

UTMB Children’s Hospital in the John Sealy Hospital provides family-centered pediatric care. Twice a week, GAC Teaching Artists go room to room, working with the Child Life specialist to create personalized art interactions for patients right at their bedside. Currently conducted virtually.
