Block Printing

  • Galveston Arts Center 2127 Strand Street Galveston, TX, 77550 United States (map)

Wednesdays from 5:30 − 7:30 PM, June 8 − 29
Ages 13 & Up

Join printmaker Becca Hovey in this 4-week course exploring the design and production of block prints. This popular art form allows you to make reproducible yet handmade images on almost any surface. We will be using rubber Speedy-Carve® printing blocks to make stamps, repeating designs on fabric, unique art prints and more by hand. Each print is an original work of art.

Bring in your own drawings or chose from provided photos and images for inspiration and learn how to turn either into a line drawing suitable for reductive carving. Enjoy the satisfying process of rolling out ink with a brayer and applying just the just the right amount to pull a perfect print. Master the use of a paper registration for precise image alignment to your card, shirt, tea towel, etc.

Both directed projects and experimentation will be supported and encouraged at each student's skill level. All levels of experience are welcome!

Finished work will be clear-glazed and fired, ready for pick-up by August 12, 2022
