8 weeks | June 13 – Aug 1
Mondays from 3:00 – 5:30 PM* (2.5 Hours)
So you’re pretty good at art. Excellent! But what can you do with that? If there’s one thing an artist (or anyone with a marketable skill) can never be too good at, it’s entrepreneurship! Who is your audience, what questions are important to ask prospective clients, and what will they will expect of you? You’ll need to know if you ever want to enter any work agreement with confidence and complete the job like a pro.
This is a fast-paced, immersive course for artists aged 14-18, beginning with a 3-part crash-course/review in design and color theory. You’ll then have a chance to interview local business owners who commission murals and meet the artists who paint them. Working independently and as a team, you’ll brainstorm, research, sketch, troubleshoot, and revise your own mural design proposal for a real client, painting a mock-up on birch panel at 1/4 scale. Find out how to enlarge and transfer a drawing to a wall and work as a team to complete a full-scale mural. The finished project will be unveiled during ArtWalk on Saturday, August 27.
HOMEWORK
Each week you will need to complete certain action items before your project can move to the next phase. This may include research, sketching, watching online videos, and/or painting. Students are encouraged to take advantage of supervised open studio time during the week. Schedule with the instructor or education director.
